Job Summary:


As an Oiler for Crane Operator, the primary responsibility is to provide essential support to crane operators by performing routine maintenance, inspections, and lubrication tasks on cranes and associated equipment. Your role is crucial in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of cranes while minimizing downtime due to mechanical issues.


**Must be a member of or willing to join International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) local 101


Key Responsibilities:


  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on cranes, including greasing, oiling, and lubricating moving parts to ensure smooth operation.
  • Inspect crane components such as cables, ropes, pulleys, and hooks for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage.
  • Clean and maintain crane engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components as directed by the maintenance schedule.
  • Replace worn or defective parts, such as filters, belts, and hoses, to prevent equipment breakdowns.
  • Apply lubricants to crane components according to manufacturer specifications and maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor fluid levels in hydraulic systems, gearboxes, and engines, and top up fluids as needed.
  • Keep accurate records of lubrication schedules, fluid levels, and maintenance activities.
  • Assist in conducting pre-operational inspections of cranes to ensure they meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in load testing procedures to verify the structural integrity and lifting capacity of cranes.
  • Identify and report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the crane operator or maintenance supervisor.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries during maintenance activities.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Attend safety training sessions and toolbox talks to stay informed about best practices and hazard awareness.
  • Communicate effectively with crane operators, maintenance personnel, and supervisors to coordinate maintenance activities and prioritize tasks.
  • Provide feedback to the maintenance team regarding equipment performance and maintenance needs.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and troubleshooting of equipment malfunctions as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned by management.


Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience in maintenance or mechanical work, preferably in a heavy equipment or industrial setting.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures related to equipment maintenance and operation.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in crane maintenance and rigging preferred.
  • Certification in rigging and/or crane safety (e.g., NCCCO, OSHA) is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems.

Ability to work in outdoor environments and at heights.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Commitment to safety and adherence to site-specific protocols.


Physical Requirements:


Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring manual labor, lifting, and climbing.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
Comfortable working in confined spaces and at elevated heights.
Capable of standing, walking, bending, and climbing for extended periods.


Grip, hold, operate objects, tools and/or controls.

Ascend/Descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs.


Work Environment:
Construction sites, industrial facilities, or shipyards.
Exposure to varying weather conditions and loud machinery.
