Position Summary:
The Preschool Substitute Teacher is responsible for temporarily supporting the classroom in the absence of the lead or assistant teacher. This role ensures a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for young children while maintaining the daily routine and expectations of the preschool program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of all children in the classroom
- Follow lesson plans and classroom schedules left by the regular teacher
- Lead classroom activities such as circle time, play, meals, and transitions
- Maintain a positive, patient, and supportive attitude with children
- Manage classroom behavior using appropriate guidance techniques
- Communicate effectively with staff and administration
- Keep the classroom clean, organized, and prepared for daily use
- Report any incidents, concerns, or important updates to administration
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required (CDA or early childhood coursework preferred)
- Experience working with young children in a preschool or childcare setting preferred
- Ability to adapt quickly to different classrooms and routines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Must pass background screening and meet state licensing requirements
