On-Call Substitute Teacher (Private Music Lessons)

Join our dynamic team as an On-Call Substitute Teacher specializing in Private Music Lessons! This vibrant role offers flexible opportunities to inspire and educate students of all ages in a variety of musical disciplines. As an on-call substitute, you will have opportunities to fill in for one of our regular Instructors, and, should the need arise, take on more students. Lessons are one on one and consist of these areas of focus: strings, piano, percussion, guitar, brass & woodwinds, and voice (you do not need to teach all of these to qualify, but you must be a multi-instrumentalist Instructor). Your expertise will help maintain continuity in students’ musical education, ensuring they stay excited and committed to their artistic growth. This position is perfect for someone with a flexible schedule that loves teaching.

Duties

  • Provide high-quality, individualized music instruction across diverse instruments and styles during scheduled or unplanned absences
  • Adapt lesson plans to meet the unique needs of each student, incorporating curriculum development techniques and creative teaching methods
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively to create a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment
  • Support students’ overall development by integrating elements of theater, dancing, or other performing arts when appropriate
  • Assist with setting up musical equipment, props, or visual aids such as photography or multimedia presentations to enhance lessons
  • Track student progress through assessments and communicate updates to parents or guardians when necessary, follow MAIN Instructor sub notes
  • Collaborate with other educators or staff to ensure consistency in instructional quality and classroom management strategies

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in teaching or tutoring, especially within private music lessons or related arts disciplines such as ballet, theater, or dance
  • Ability to adapt
  • Excellent classroom management skills with the ability to work effectively with children, teenagers, and adult learners
  • Passion for working with students of all backgrounds and skill levels while fostering a love for the arts
