On-Camera Host for Tech YouTube Channels

About Us:

JROB Media LLC is a media company specializing in creating and publishing video game, phone, and PC hardware reviews, unboxings, and other creative content. We publish weekly video content on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.

The bulk of our video content is across 4 YouTube channels:

Given the content of these channels, it is critical that you have a passion and deep understanding of the video game, phone, and PC hardware space.

Location:

This is an in-person role based in the Raleigh, NC area. Because this position involves on-camera hosting and creative collaboration, local candidates are strongly preferred.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an On-Camera Hostto join our team to brainstorm, research, script, and film videos across our Smokin' Silicon, Crackin' Carts, and a future "how-to" YouTube channels. You will be the lead host on our upcoming “how-to” channel, and a 3rd host on our Smokin’ Silicon and Crackin’ Carts channels.

As an On-Camera Host, you will have a unique position where you will be on-camera doing anything from testing interesting tech, giving tutorials on how to repair, upgrade, or clean a video game console, and anything in between.

This will be a full-time 40 hours per week position.

What We Are Looking For:

The ideal applicant should be comfortable and confident on-camera, have a strong understanding and interest in video games and tech, and know how to turn ideas into engaging YouTube videos. Because 75% of our content is unscripted, you should not only be comfortable on camera, but comfortable without a script.

And while we want your personality to shine through on camera, the core structure of each video you film should very closely align with our other videos that feature different hosts - we keep our viewers coming back, despite having different hosts, because we keep our style very similar across all videos, no matter who the host is. In the ever-changing world of social media content, it is important that you are flexible and open to shifting gears into different styles of videos, as needed.

I should also note that because you are the main host on our how-to channel, a bonus skill is having knowledge of how to repair tech specifically related to video games.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Brainstorm video ideas across all our channels
  • Create outlines for your videos
  • Write scripts for video intros
  • Write scripts for sponsored content, which could be anything from a 60 second segment in a video, to a 10-minute dedicated video
  • Film 3-5 long form videos per week. You will likely film 1-2 videos per week on our Smokin’ Silicon and Crackin’ Carts channels, and you will be the lead host on our *new* Tutorial channel.
  • Review edited videos and mark cuts or other changes (we have our own in-house editors who will edit the footage)
  • Come up with title and thumbnail ideas for the videos you film
  • Review video analytics to see what can be improved for future videos

Qualifications:

  • You must have experience in front of the camera and/or in front of an audience. Ideally, you will have experience in creating unscripted content on YouTube, or any other social media platform (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc.). While we will consider candidates that have experience in more traditional media spaces, we are really looking for someone who understands the current social media landscape.
  • Knowledge of testing, cleaning, assembling, disassembling, repairing, and upgrading video game hardware and other tech. You will be the lead host on our new how-to channel, so it is important that you are handy in this niche. And while you don’t need to know everything, you should be able to problem solve on your own.
  • Strong attention to detail and strong writing skills. This is critical for creating outlines, scripting, and communicating effectively with our team.
  • Passion for gaming and tech, particularly hardware (For example, do you know why so many Xbox 360s had the RROD? Have you ever replaced an NES 72 pin connector? Do you collect retro and modern games and/or consoles?)
  • Ability to work independently, and collaboratively, to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

What we offer:

  • The opportunity to work hands-on with video games, consoles, phones, PCs, and other interesting tech every week
  • A chance to play an important role in growing both existing and new YouTube channels
  • A small team where your ideas and creative input will matter

Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • 401(k) matching
  • Paid time off

Application Question(s):

  • This question is not required, but is strongly encouraged. Please submit a short video, in reference to this job posting, showing why you are a good fit. This will be a great opportunity to show your on-camera skills.
  • Please share a link to examples of your on-camera experience. This is required in order to be considered for the position.
  • Please share your hands-on experience with video game hardware, phones, and PCs. Do you know how to perform any upgrades or repairs?
