Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Oncologist to join our esteemed medical team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in oncology and possess a comprehensive understanding of various cancer treatments and patient care methodologies. This role involves diagnosing and treating patients with cancer, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to clinical research initiatives. The Oncologist will also be responsible for providing compassionate care while ensuring adherence to the highest standards of medical practice.

Duties

  • Diagnose and treat patients with various types of cancer using evidence-based practices.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans that may include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgical interventions.
  • Utilize EHR systems and EMR systems for accurate patient documentation and management.
  • Collaborate with other specialists such as cardiologists, endocrinologists, and surgeons to provide comprehensive care.
  • Conduct physical examinations and assessments to monitor patient progress.
  • Participate in clinical research studies aimed at improving cancer treatments.
  • Provide health coaching and education to patients regarding their condition and treatment options.
  • Manage acute pain management strategies for patients undergoing treatment.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality of patient records.
  • Participate in tumor board meetings to discuss complex cases and treatment strategies.

Experience
Candidates should possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree with board certification in oncology. Experience in the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Familiarity with medical imaging techniques such as CT scans, MRI, and mammography.
  • Proficiency in using Epic software for patient management.
  • Background in critical care experience or inpatient settings.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures relevant to oncology, including catheterization and wound care.
  • Experience with supportive therapies such as palliative care or hospice medicine is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, coding (CPT/ICD), and discharge planning processes. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, a commitment to patient service, and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.

Travel. There will be an expectation to conduct clinic at the Batavia VAMC and Olean CBOC in accordance with patient volume for oncology services. The frequency of clinic at these locations will be reoccurring with a minimum of one day per quarter and a maximum of one day per week for each location. Batavia is 36.4 miles from the primary location in Buffalo. Olean is 75.5 miles from the primary location in Buffalo. We estimate there may be a maximum of 26 visits per year to either the Batavia VAMC or the Olean CBOC.
