Assists Radiation Oncologist with patient consultations and examinations, coordinates radiation oncology activities with nursing staff and other departments and educates patients and families; does proper documentation and maintains high standards of patient care, administers nursing care to designated patients.
- Charts, dictates patient visits. Orders necessary procedures for patient's condition. Monitor care for patients under treatment, completion of treatment and at follow up.
- Reinforce physician's advice to patients regarding reactions to treatment and care. Involves patient and family in planning process. Identifies learning barriers, readiness to learn and cultural issues that can impact learning for patient and family.
- Educates patients regarding medical condition, providing specific educational material. Conducts patient orientation, and counsels patients on psychosocial conditions and refers when appropriate.
- Review findings and reinforces radiation oncologist's advice regarding treatments, medical condition, and overall care.
- Maintains educated on specific radiation oncology issues by certification. Attends tumor conferences and participates in interdepartmental meetings. Maintains a liaison with other disciplines.
- Assures fiscal compliance related to patient billing and coding. Correctly bill patients for services and accurately document to support charges.
