We are seeking a highly qualified online Philosophy teacher to train motivated U.S. middle and high school students for philosophy competitions
This role is designed for a competition-oriented instructor who can:
- Build strong philosophical foundations from the ground up, and
- Systematically train students for high-level, timed philosophical essay writing.
What You Will Teach
- Core philosophy foundations
- (ethics, epistemology, political philosophy, metaphysics, philosophy of mind)
- Philosophical logic and argument mapping
- Close reading of philosophical texts
- IPO-style timed essay writing (4-hour format)
- Competition prompt analysis and strategy
- Advanced academic writing and revision techniquesResponsibilities
Responsibilities
- Teach 1-on-1 or small-group online classes
- Prepare students for competitions such as:
- International Philosophy Olympiad (IPO – U.S. selection), John Locke Essay Competition, Reuben Essay Prize, and similar contests
- Design structured curriculum from beginner → advanced competition level
- Provide detailed written feedback on essays
- Create mock prompts and timed writing practice sessions
- Track student progress and competition readinessRequired Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Philosophy or related field
- Strong background in philosophical writing and argumentation
- Experience teaching or tutoring secondary school students or above
- Reliable online teaching setup
Strongly Preferred
- Experience with IPO preparation or national philosophy olympiad training
- Experience coaching students for philosophy essay competitions
- Academic research or publications in philosophy
- Familiarity with U.S. students or gifted/competition-based education
- Online teaching experience
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $50.00 per hour
