About the Role:

We have opportunities in Reading and Math. You will be able to become an expert tutor in either or both. You choose!

As a Reading Tutor at Braintrust Tutors, you will work with K-8 students in a school setting to strengthen their reading comprehension, fluency, and critical thinking skills. Using our structured intervention programs and materials, you will deliver consistent, high-impact tutoring that meets each student where they are.

As a Math Tutor at Braintrust Tutors, you will work with K-8 students to strengthen their mathematical reasoning, number sense, and problem-solving strategies. You will provide engaging, consistent lessons using Braintrust Tutors curriculum and materials, helping students build foundational math skills and confidence.

Opportunity Details:

• Online & remote, anywhere in the U.S. or a specific location due to fingerprinting
• Applications are considered on a rolling basis
• Candidates MUST have proof of a valid or expired teaching license issued by a U.S. State Board

Employment Type: This is a part-time contractor 1099 role

Our typical schedule and availability requirements vary by engagement, but here are some general guidelines.

• 12-14 weeks
• Opportunities in the Fall (mid-Sept to Dec) and Spring (Jan to Jun) semesters
• School-day hours

Tutor Schedule:

• 3/4 days per week - 30/45 minute sessions

Pay Rate: $45/hour for group sessions 1:4 - $32/hour for individual sessions 1:1
To be considered, interested applicants must be available for the entire 12-14 weeks

What You Will Do:

• Provide small-group or 1:1 reading/math tutoring to students developing literacy skills
• Implement Braintrust Tutors intervention programs as designed, using all materials with fidelity
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic performance
• Collaborate with the Braintrust Tutors Operations team and school staff to support student growth
• Foster a supportive and engaging virtual classroom environment that promotes focus and confidence
• Follow school-site procedures and policies while maintaining a professional and dependable presence
• Use the provided assessments and progress monitoring tools for understanding to guide instruction
• Manage time effectively during sessions to complete all planned instructional activities

What You Will Have:

• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
• Active or expired teaching license from a U.S. State Board.
• • The 30-day substitute certification is not accepted as a state board license.
• (READING) Experience with reading instruction that includes morphology-based word study, vocabulary development, reading comprehension strategies, and writing skills covering grammar, syntax, and multi-paragraph composition using a structured scope and sequence.
• (MATH) Knowledge of math instruction that builds number sense, procedural fluency, and problem-solving skills, with a scope and sequence ranging from counting to multi-digit arithmetic, including decimals and fractions.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• Comfort collaborating with teachers and staff
• Punctuality, professionalism, and reliability for all scheduled sessions
• Reliable and appropriate technology for instruction
• Passion for literacy and closing opportunity gaps

For online engagements, if you comply with our requirements, we will invite you to complete a one-way video interview via Spark Hire. After a successful review, you will be invited to begin your onboarding and join us for a Zoom Information Session.

Braintrust Tutors has a multi-step onboarding process requiring approximately 3–4 hours to complete. You will create a Braintrust Learning Center account, complete self-paced policy and curriculum modules for your chosen subject areas (Math, Foundational Reading, and/or Advanced Reading), set up your platform profile with required documents, submit to a background check and fingerprinting (if applicable to your assigned district), attend live Zoom curriculum practice sessions, submit teaching demonstration recordings, and apply to positions. Once matched, you will complete platform orientation and attend a Launch Call before beginning sessions. All resources are housed in the Braintrust Learning Center.
