Ontario City Library: Summer Teen LEAD VolunteersThe Ontario City Library is looking for enthusiastic teens (ages 13–17) to help lead our teen volunteer program during Summer at the Library. Are you ready to help create a fun and welcoming space while supporting programs, assisting with activities, shelving materials, and completing special projects? Volunteens bring creativity, energy, and a teen perspective that helps make library programs more engaging and meaningful. In return, you’ll gain valuable job experience, build leadership and teamwork skills, and strengthen your confidence and connection to the community.Join us and be part of something impactful this summer! About the Position: Summer Teen LEAD VolunteerSummer Teen Lead Volunteers serve in a larger leadership role, committing to at least two (2) 4-hour shifts per week at the volunteer station in the Beverly Cleary Young Readers Room. In addition to assisting Summer Reading Challenge participants, Teen Leads help guide and support fellow teen volunteers by delegating tasks, modeling professionalism, and ensuring daily assignments are completed effectively. This role plays an important part in strengthening the volunteer team, supporting new participants, and contributing to the success of summer programs and services.All Volunteens work alongside library staff to: Maintain Youth Services materials and interactive areasPrepare program supplies and materialsAttend scheduled shifts on timeAct professionallyAssist with shelving materialsHelp manage crowds during programsSupport programs beyond their regularly assigned shiftsThis is a volunteer position with the City of Ontario. The City provides no compensation for the services performed by volunteers. Volunteers are not entitled to any benefits from the City, including but not limited to Workers' Compensation benefits. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The essential functions typically performed by the Volunteens include the following: Assist at the Beverly Cleary Young Readers Room service desk volunteer station during scheduled shiftsSupport children’s, teen, or community programs by setting up rooms, assisting participants, and cleaning up afterwardPerform simple clerical tasks such as stamping, labeling, sorting, or assembling packetsUse library equipment safely, including carts, scanners, and computers as assignedFollow library policies, procedures, and confidentiality guidelinesCommunicate effectively with staff, patrons, and other volunteersArrive on time, complete assigned shifts, and notify staff in advance if unable to attendMaintain a positive, respectful, and helpful attitude at all times
