South San Francisco Scavenger Company is a family-owned integrated solid waste and recycling company serving the Northern Peninsula since 1914. We provide collection, transfer, disposal, recycling, and material recovery services to more than 25,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers throughout the region.

We are currently seeking a dependable and motivated Opening Dispatcher to join our operations team. The Opening Dispatcher position is critical to daily rollout and morning operations. Because the shift begins before most management and operational staff arrive, the Company relies heavily on the individual in this role to be dependable, punctual, and prepared each day.

Position Overview

The Opening Dispatcher plays a critical role in daily morning operations. This position is responsible for coordinating drivers, assigning routes and equipment, handling service requests, and helping ensure safe and efficient rollout of operations each day.

This is a fast-paced operational role that requires strong communication skills, problem solving, attention to detail, and the ability to make real-time decisions.

The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, calm under pressure, and comfortable managing multiple priorities simultaneously.

Schedule

  • Full-Time
  • Monday through Friday
  • Start time: 12:00 AM or 1:00 AM (to be determined)
  • Standard 8-hour shift
  • Overtime as needed based on operational demands
  • Occasional weekends and holidays required
  • Participation in an on-call rotation after training

Pay

  • $35.00 – $45.00 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Dispatch and coordinate drivers and equipment for residential, commercial, roll-off, transfer, and recycling operations
  • Manage morning driver check-in and daily rollout procedures
  • Prepare and distribute route sheets and work assignments
  • Coordinate missed pick-ups, special requests, and service issues
  • Communicate with drivers via two-way radio, phone, and computer systems
  • Work closely with customer service, maintenance, and operations personnel
  • Monitor routes and respond to operational issues in real time
  • Assist with employee scheduling and operational coverage
  • Maintain operational logs and dispatch records
  • Provide field support and route monitoring when necessary

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous dispatch, logistics, transportation, or operations experience preferred
  • Experience in waste, trucking, construction, or transportation industries is a plus
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus

License Requirements

  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License required
  • Must be able to obtain a California Class B or A License within 12 months of hire

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
