Position Summary:
StoryCenter seeks an experienced, mission-aligned Operations and Development consultant to ensure the organization runs efficiently while advancing its fundraising and growth goals. This individual will oversee regular operations, support strategic initiatives, and lead development efforts, including donor relations, grant writing, and fundraising campaigns.
The ideal candidate is both systems-minded and people-centered. They will be expected to work independently and bring creative solutions to improve operations. This person values personal storytelling and creative media making as tools for connection, equity, and social impact, and can translate that vision into sustainable infrastructure and funding.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations Management
- Oversee administrative operations to ensure organizational efficiency
- Manage internal systems, processes, and workflows
- Support budgeting, financial tracking, and reporting (in partnership with finance/bookkeeping)
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations and organizational policies
- Assist with board meeting preparation, documentation, and follow-up
- Flagging discrepancies, unusual transactions, or potential compliance issues to a Co-Director and to the outsourced CFO firm immediately
- Preparing documentation for Co-Director review and approval
Development & Fundraising
- Support the development and implementation of an annual fundraising plan
- Identify, cultivate, and steward donor relationships
- Support grant research and proposals; manage grant reporting
- Plan and execute fundraising campaigns and events
- Maintain donor database and track contributions
- Support donor communications, including newsletters and impact reports
Strategy & Leadership
- Collaborate with leadership on strategic planning and organizational growth
- Identify opportunities for partnerships, funding, and program expansion
- Represent the organization in community and stakeholder meetings as needed
Required Qualifications
- At least 5 years of experience in nonprofit operations, development, or related field
- Proven success in fundraising, grant writing, or donor relations
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency with common tools (e.g., Google Workspace, CRM systems, fundraising platforms)
- Financial management or bookkeeping experience
- Passion for the organization’s mission
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a small nonprofit environment
- Comfortable working remotely
- Familiarity with donor management software (e.g., Salesforce, Bloomerang, etc.)

- Hourly rate (commensurate with experience)
