Operations and Logistics Support Officer

The World Health Organization is the directing and coordinating authority for public health within the UN system. Through the Health Emergencies Programme (WHE), WHO supports countries in preventing, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from health emergencies.

The WHO Office in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) serves as the principal technical adviser to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. In support of WHO’s emergency response to Gaza, this assignment strengthens operational, logistics, and supply chain capacity along the Egyptian corridor. The requisition may also be used to fill similar WHO UNV positions in Cairo or Al Arish.


The position supports WHO emergency operations by ensuring effective administrative, procurement, logistics, and supply chain services critical to the timely delivery of life‑saving medical assistance.


Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the OSL Lead (oPt) in Cairo and in coordination with WHO teams in Cairo, Al Arish, and oPt, the UN Volunteer will:

Supply Chain & Warehouse Operations

  • Support reception, storage, transport, and delivery of medical supplies from Egypt to Gaza
  • Assist in warehouse management, inventory control, stock tracking, and reporting in Cairo and Al Arish

Cross‑Border Logistics Coordination

  • Coordinate with the Egyptian Red Crescent, Logistics Cluster, OCHA, and partners on manifests, QR coding, notifications, and border‑crossing arrangements
  • Liaise with WHO teams to support cross‑border logistics, HR coordination, and administrative processes

Procurement & Supplier Support

  • Support procurement processes, including RPE preparation and follow‑up
  • Assist in the establishment and management of Long‑Term Agreements (LTAs) for logistics and transport services
  • Coordinate with local suppliers and partners to ensure timely and compliant service delivery

Administrative & Financial Support

  • Support advance cash management for urgent operational needs in line with WHO rules
  • Assist with invoice review, processing, documentation, and reporting
  • Identify and flag operational gaps or risks to inform management decisions

Other Duties

  • Perform additional incident‑specific logistics and supply chain tasks as required


Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years relevant experience
  • Languages: English (Fluent – Required); Arabic (Fluent – Required)

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, supply chain/logistics, engineering, or social sciences

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum three years’ experience in administration, procurement, supply chain, or logistics operations
  • Experience in emergency or field operations
  • Prior experience with WHO, UN agencies, health cluster partners, or humanitarian organizations (essential)



Volunteer Living Allowance: currently US$ 2,455 to US$ 2,905

UN Volunteers serve full-time in their professional expertise, supported by a benefits package, including a monthly living allowance to ensure a secure standard of living at their duty stations. These allowances are not intended as compensation, reward, or salary for the volunteer's service.
