Our moving and transportation company is seeking an experienced Operations & Dispatch Manager to lead our local operations, develop our people, and help grow our business. This position is responsible for ensuring every truck, every crew, and every customer receives the highest level of service possible.

We're looking for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands transportation operations, and believes that great customer experiences begin with well-trained, motivated employees.

This is much more than a dispatch position. It is an operational leadership role with direct responsibility for staffing, service quality, fleet readiness, compliance, employee development, and business growth.

Position Summary

The Operations & Dispatch Manager is responsible for matching the right crews to the right jobs while ensuring our employees have the equipment, training, and support needed to perform at the highest level.

This individual will lead daily operations, oversee field personnel, maintain fleet readiness, support regulatory compliance, and work alongside company leadership to increase production, improve efficiency, and maximize truck utilization.

Our goal is simple: every truck should leave the yard fully staffed, properly equipped, and assigned to a profitable job.

Primary Responsibilities

Dispatch & Operations

  • Schedule and dispatch local moving crews to maximize service quality and operational efficiency.
  • Assign the right talent to each move based on customer requirements, crew experience, and operational demands.
  • Maximize fleet utilization by ensuring available trucks are consistently assigned to revenue-producing work.
  • Work closely with Sales, Customer Service, Warehouse, and Leadership to ensure seamless execution of every move.
  • Support the Long-Distance Dispatcher by monitoring GPS fleet tracking, Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs), driver hours of service, and FMCSA compliance.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and develop movers, drivers, and crew leaders.
  • Influence compensation decisions based on employee performance, leadership, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct coaching sessions and performance evaluations.
  • Administer disciplinary action when necessary, including termination when appropriate.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and accountable work environment where employees are encouraged to grow.
  • Develop incentive programs that recognize outstanding performance and build camaraderie among crews.
  • Lead by example by maintaining a professional appearance and wearing a company uniform daily.

Service Quality

  • Validate service quality through field observations, customer feedback, and operational follow-up.
  • Ensure crews arrive properly equipped with trucks, moving equipment, packing materials, and supplies.
  • Verify employees maintain professional appearance standards and represent the company with pride.
  • Promote exceptional handling, packing, pad-wrapping, loading, and protection of customers' household goods.
  • Reinforce our commitment to delivering an outstanding customer experience on every move.

Fleet Management & Compliance

  • Oversee fleet maintenance schedules, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure drivers complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Track vehicle service intervals and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor fleet readiness and ensure trucks are safe, compliant, and available for daily operations.
  • Support FMCSA compliance initiatives and promote a strong culture of safety.

Business Development

  • Work collaboratively with company leadership to increase operational capacity and revenue.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve productivity, profitability, and truck utilization.
  • Build professional relationships with dispatchers, agents, and transportation partners throughout the country to generate additional business opportunities.
  • Support strategic initiatives that strengthen our reputation and expand our market presence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in moving, transportation, logistics, or household goods operations.
  • Previous dispatch or operations management experience.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
  • Experience recruiting, training, evaluating, and developing field personnel.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, Hours of Service, GPS fleet management, and Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs).
  • Experience managing fleet maintenance and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.

Highly Desired

  • Experience with government household goods relocations.
  • Understanding of the relationships between hauling carriers, servicing agents, Transportation Service Providers (TSPs), Move Managers, and government agency customers.
  • A commercial driver's license (Class A CDL preferred) or the ability to safely operate commercial equipment for repositioning trucks, transporting equipment for service, and assisting with operational needs.
  • Existing relationships within the household goods and transportation industry.

  • Helped our leadership team grow revenue by ensuring available trucks and crews are consistently producing.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
