We are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Operations Specialist to support the Laboratory Manager in ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of our state-of-the-art research laboratories.
About the Role
This hands on role is ideal for someone with a strong background in laboratory operations, commercial or industry experience, and a passion for continuous improvement. You'll apply Lean methodologies such as 6S and Kanban to streamline workflows, manage complex stakeholder relationships, and support cutting edge medical research.
Key Responsibilities Lab Operations Support
- Liaise with ACMD researchers and users to resolve operational issues
- Ensure lab supplies are stocked and accessible
- Assist with scheduling, equipment setup, and reagent preparation
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized lab environment
- Monitor adherence to safety protocols and procedures
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with ACMD partners, clinicians, researchers, and industry collaborators
- Navigate complex stakeholder needs across academic, clinical, and commercial domains
- Guide interns, students, and lab personnel on procedures and protocols
- Support training and development of lab users and technicians
- Maintain clear and professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Inventory & Equipment Management
- Monitor inventory levels and place orders
- Ensure equipment is calibrated, safe, and functional
- Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs with vendors
- Monitor and report on lab usage, maintenance needs, and user feedback
Lean Lab Process Management
- Apply 6S principles to maintain an organized and efficient lab environment
- Use Kanban systems to manage workflow and inventory
- Maintain and improve lab inductions and equipment training
- Assist in designing and implementing new lab processes
Data & Reporting
- Record and manage lab documentation
- Support report writing, grant applications, and presentations
- Collaborate with the Laboratory Manager to maintain compliance records
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure safe waste disposal and chemical handling
- Assist with safety drills, audits, and regulatory compliance
- Help ensure the lab meets all relevant local, state, and federal regulations
- Application and adherence to occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations
About You
- Experience in laboratory operations within commercial, clinical, or research environments
- Minimum 3-5 years of laboratory operations experience required
- Proven application of Lean methodologies, especially 6S and Kanban
- Demonstrated experience in applying Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations within a laboratory or research centre environment.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including working with diverse and complex groups
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset
- Ability to prioritise tasks and respond calmly under pressure.
- Bachelor's degree qualification required
