Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized leader in residential and behavioral health treatment for at-risk youth. Memphis Youth Academy in Memphis, Tennessee, is a therapeutic youth academy providing trauma-informed residential care for adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges.

Serving youth ages 13–18, the academy combines clinical treatment, education, recreation, and life-skills programming within a structured, supportive environment. Youth typically remain in care for several months, participating in individualized treatment plans focused on safety, personal growth, and successful reintegration into the community.


Position Summary – Operations Manager Job in Memphis, TN

We are seeking an Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of our housing units and ensure the safety, structure, and well-being of the youth in care. This role is key to maintaining an orderly and therapeutic environment while supporting the staff who work directly with our residents.

The Operations Manager supervises Shift Supervisors and coordinates unit activities, schedules, and facility operations. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with experience in youth residential care, crisis management, and team development.

Operations Manager Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee daily operations of assigned housing units

  • Ensure the safety, security, and emotional well-being of all youth

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards within housing units

  • Support the implementation of activities that promote residents’ education, recreation, and emotional health

  • Supervise Shift Supervisors and assist in developing work schedules and staffing plans

  • Coordinate youth appointments, transports, and intake/discharge processes

  • Ensure compliance with all state regulations and facility policies

  • Conduct and document room inspections, security checks, and searches for contraband

  • Oversee implementation of the iChoose behavior management system and review youth grievances and incident reports

  • Support medication administration and ensure accurate documentation

  • Monitor visitation processes to ensure safety and policy compliance

  • Maintain detailed operational and behavioral records and prepare reports as required

  • Participate in on-call rotation (ADO) and respond to facility emergencies as needed

  • Serve as a role model for professionalism, integrity, and positive engagement with youth

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with youth in a residential or behavioral health setting

  • Experience supervising staff in a structured care or correctional environment

  • Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen

  • Valid state driver’s license and safe driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, criminal justice, or related field

  • Prior experience in juvenile residential treatment or behavioral health management

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and crisis intervention practices

Physical Demands

  • Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable

  • Ability to lift/move up to 30 pounds

  • Ability to transport youth or staff as needed

  • Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state

  • Must successfully complete all required physical and written certification evaluations
