Operations Manager

Job Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily manufacturing operations including Production, Compounding, and Warehouse functions to ensure efficient, cost-effective operations while consistently meeting quality, service, and compliance standards. This position leads departmental performance through labor management, scheduling, training, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with plant goals and established procedures.

Responsibilities

Operations Leadership (Production, Compounding & Warehouse)

Provide leadership and direction for Production, Compounding, and Warehouse operations to ensure plant performance goals are achieved.

Develop and execute daily and weekly operational plans to meet production schedules and customer demand.

Monitor operational KPIs including output, efficiency, downtime, scrap, inventory accuracy, and on-time delivery.

Ensure effective coordination between compounding, production scheduling, warehousing, and material flow.

Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements to optimize throughput and reduce waste.

Ensure proper utilization of equipment, labor, and plant resources to meet operational objectives.

Maintain awareness of new technologies and best practices that support operational efficiency.

People Leadership & Workforce Management

Lead, coach, and develop department Managers, Supervisors and hourly employees.

Partner with Human Resources on hiring, onboarding, employee relations, discipline, and terminations within operations.

Prepare and administer performance evaluations for Supervisors and review performance evaluations within the Operations Department.

Promote accountability, teamwork, and strong communication across all shifts and departments.

Coordinate and track SOP training and ensure consistent application of operational procedures.

Ensure proper staffing levels, shift coverage, and labor planning to meet business demands.

Warehouse & Inventory Management

Oversee receiving, storage, material handling, inventory control, and shipping functions.

Ensure accurate inventory transactions, cycle counts, and proper ERP system usage.

Collaborate with Materials Management and Purchasing to ensure availability of raw materials and packaging components.

Ensure warehouse organization and material flow support efficient production operations.

Budgeting & Cost Control

Manage all aspects of operational budgets including labor, overtime, supplies, and department expenses.

Monitor and control direct and indirect labor costs while maintaining productivity standards.

Identify cost reduction opportunities through process improvements, waste reduction, and improved resource utilization.

Support cost estimation, R&D initiatives, and product development projects as needed.

Quality & Compliance

Partner with the Quality Control Department to ensure product quality standards are consistently met.

Support adherence to established quality systems, SOPs, and documentation requirements.

Work with QC and Purchasing to improve raw material quality and supplier performance.

Ensure operational compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Collaborate with QC, Maintenance, Materials Management, and Purchasing to meet plant objectives.

Communicate operational priorities, performance updates, and constraints to plant leadership.

Support implementation of plant initiatives, policies, and continuous improvement projects across departments.

Essential Functions

Frequent use of hands and arms (shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hands).

Ability to stand and walk up to 80% of the workday.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.

Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, moving machinery, and temperature variations.

Strong organizational and planning skills with a focus on execution.

Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, material flow, and inventory management.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office; strong ERP/production reporting skills preferred.

Experience and Knowledge

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Human Resources, or related field preferred.

Minimum five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.

Prior experience overseeing production and warehouse operations strongly preferred.

ERP and supply chain management software experience required; PeopleSoft preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $105,000.00 per year
