Operations Manager

The Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the manufacturing process at all local facilities, while staying in compliance with company policies and procedures. This position will be directly responsible for all manufacturing activities downstream of engineering, which includes; purchasing; fabrication; sheet metal; production; control panel; on-oven utility; and freight/shipping. The Operations Manager will generate, plan and maintain an accurate production schedule, while analyzing and optimizing processes to identify ways to improve efficiency, increase productivity and maximize profitability without sacrificing quality. They will establish and enforce policies, and ensure all staff are meeting quality standards while also maintaining a safe working environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Prioritize, plan, schedule and delegate work assignments as necessary to meet our customer’s demands.
  • Supervise the company’s day-to-day manufacturing activities to ensure the meeting of gross profit goals, ensure all groups meet their performance expectations, work within their budgetary constraints, and review procedures and ensure all employees follow those procedures.
  • Review data information and to produce reports reflecting operating statistics and to make better business decisions. Evaluate the results of overall operations regularly and systematically and report these results to the General Manager and senior management team.
  • Interface and coordinate with other departments for the introduction of new products, lean activities, continuous improvement of process, product, and support of our employees.
  • Ensure that all manufactured components are produced efficiently, and are consistent with company established goals for quality and customer order on-time performance.
  • Manage company assets to support completion of pre-set production schedules cost effectively.
  • Monitor and report shop labor efficiencies as requested.
  • Coordinate, recommend, and manage improvements to reduce costs, increase efficiencies, and sustain those improvements.
  • Ensure quality standards and processes are used throughout manufacturing.
  • Work with Quality Assurance on continuous improvements and provide preventative and correction actions when problems occur.
  • Track competencies of subordinates and provide leadership, development, and training as required.
  • Ensure safety guidelines are being met to assure a safe work environment. Coordinate periodic safety meetings to improve safety awareness.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and provide information on main activities, as well as provide input regarding continuous improvement efforts and review and refinement of WOC’s policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement procedures and controls to promote efficient operations of the organization and ensure the groups follow those procedures and controls.
  • Develop, recommend, and upon approval, implement the operating budgets. Manage the budgets within the budgetary constraints. Analyze and report on variances between actual and budgeted expenditures.
  • Ensure the training of new and present employees in the processes and methods required to achieve the organization’s standards for quality, quantity, and safety, consistent with the organization’s principles.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory agencies. Promote affirmative action and equal employment opportunity.
  • Assist in the development of the short term and long-range strategies, plans, and budgets based on corporate goals and growth objectives.
  • Ensure the completion of all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
  • Ensure the departmental housekeeping standards are followed.
  • Supports Lean Manufacturing, project initiatives and continually looks for ways to improve the overall operations improve efficiency, make work easier for employees and products more competitive.
  • Promotes WOC within the community, amongst other employees, as well as throughout the industry.
  • Promotes teamwork, cooperation, resolves conflicts and creates a supportive environment where employees can thrive.
  • Work with Maintenance Department to maintain the asset management program (calibration and preventive maintenance) for equipment and tools needed in the manufacturing process (brakes, presses, welders, lasers, recorders, saws, compressors, etc.).
  • Confers with administrative personnel and reviews activity, operating, and sales reports to determine changes in programs or operations required.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position will manage and supervise the following departments: Purchasing; Sheet Metal/Fabrication; Assembly; Control Panel; On-Oven Utility; and Freight/Shipping. The Operations Manager will carry out the supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include: facilitating the training of employees; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; motivating, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED required. An Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school is preferred, 2 years or more years of proven success in an operations mangement role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Office software suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook) and/or Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Meet, Chat, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides). Familiarity or experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software platform (Microsoft Projects, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Epicor, Kinetic, IFS Cloud, Oracle NetSuite, etc.)
