Operations Manager - Final Mile Logistics

Job Description

Smith Logistical Services Ltd. Co. (SLS Couriers) is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee our last-mile delivery operations in the Maryland area. This role is warehouse-based and serves as the operational backbone of our pickup and delivery network.

The ideal candidate is a strong, hands-on leader with experience managing teams in fast-paced warehouse or logistics environments and is comfortable having direct, sometimes tough conversations with drivers to ensure performance, accountability, and operational excellence.

This position requires daily interaction with independent contractor drivers, warehouse staff, and internal leadership to ensure routes, pickups, and drop-offs run efficiently and on schedule.

Responsibilities

• - Oversee daily warehouse operations supporting last-mile pickups and deliveries
• - Manage driver check-in, dispatch coordination, and end-of-day returns
• - Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers during operations
• - Enforce operational standards, safety protocols, and performance expectations
• - Address driver issues, performance concerns, and compliance matters directly and professionally
• - Track operational metrics, attendance, and productivity using spreadsheets and reports
• - Utilize internal online platforms and portals to monitor and manage driver performance
• - Make updates, changes, and notes within the system to maintain accurate records
• - Coordinate staffing needs, route coverage, and volume planning with leadership
• - Maintain order, structure, and accountability in a fast-moving warehouse environment

Requirements

• - Minimum 3 years of experience in a supervisory or management role
• - Warehouse management, logistics operations, or distribution preferred
• - Experience in last-mile delivery, courier operations, or logistics
• - Proven ability to lead, manage, and hold teams accountable
• - Comfortable giving clear direction and handling difficult conversations
• - Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel) and/or Google Sheets
• - Technologically capable and comfortable using web-based platforms or mobile applications
• - Able to log into internal systems to review dashboards and manager statistics
• - Comfortable tracking, tracing, and documenting driver performance digitally
• - Experience working with drivers (W-2 or 1099), including performance management
• - Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• - Experience in high-volume pickup and drop-off operations
• - Background in courier, e-commerce, or parcel delivery environments
• - Experience working in metrics-driven, time-sensitive operations
