Operator/Equipment Operator

JOB SUMMARY: Equipment Operator (Variable Equipment)

WORK HOURS: Variable as assigned.

DESIGNATION: Call-When-Needed; Non-exempt.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed in all types of weather on flat to steep rocky terrain.
  • Projects may be located in remote forested areas with limited resources.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Excellent coordination and heavy physical effort are required.

· Considerable strain may be experienced by constant vibration, jerking, and jolting.

· Ability to lift 50lbs.

· Ability to climb and enter/exit equipment.

· May be required to walk or hike in difficult terrain.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Operates one or more light to medium gasoline or diesel powered wheeled or crawler type equipment including Track Loaders, Skid Steers, Excavators, Feller/Bunchers & other related equipment as assigned.

· Able to read and follow written plans. Ability to read and work with maps both paper and electronic.

· Operate heavy equipment in compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures.

· Performs preventive maintenance and makes minor repairs and adjustments.

· Inspect and service equipment and maintain accurate and up to date records.

· Provide recommendations for maintaining and improving performance.

· Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers.

· Ensure company equipment, material, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner. Collect and dispose of scrap, excess materials, and refuse.

· Complete required paperwork, reporting, and other documentation.

· Ensure all assets are secure and protected from theft and vandalism.

· Other Duties as Assigned

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

  • General - Reports to Mechanical Treatment Supervisor/Operations Manager.
  • Subordinates – Swamper, general laborer.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with valid medical certification, air brakes, and manual transmission endorsements.
  • Experience operating tracked equipment on steep uneven terrain.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Qualified to make major mechanical repairs

· Ability to weld, cut, and complete light metal fabrication.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Garmin mapping, Avenza, and technical equipment.

· Ability to operate and understand radio and repeater equipment.

· Good communication skills.
