Job Summary: Working under the immediate supervision of the Managing Physician, this person will handle the clinical aspects of the office. Prior experience with surgical scheduling, drug inventory management, or building training programs is highly desired. This position is intended to improve patient flow/throughput for our busy practice while maintaining high levels of quality care.
Responsibilities:
- Sets and maintains standards for clinical duties such as patient work up, scribing, diagnostics, etc.; following provider protocols.
- Leadership support to other technicians
- Assist with phone and referral triage
- Perform and oversee preliminary eye examinations, including taking patient histories, measuring visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and other pretesting elements
- Conduct diagnostic tests, such as optical coherence tomography, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography
- Assist ophthalmologists in various procedures, such as eye injections and laser treatments
- Educate patients on proper eye care, to include post-treatment
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records
- Clean and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment
- Reports non-functioning/defective equipment to managing Director immediately
- Oversight on clinical inventory
- Ensures clinical supplies are current and expired materials are discarded
- Maintains all HIPAA and OSHA training
- Assists managing Director in training new technicians
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
-Medical Scribe experience required
- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology related to the eye
- Familiarity with medical office procedures, including medical coding and HIPAA regulations
- Experience with electronic health record systems, preferably Ophthalmology EMR such as Modernizing Medicine (EMA or Eyefinity)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
- Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with patients and healthcare professionals
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and multi-task effectively
Education: Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent is required. COA certification a plus. Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
Experience: Must have strong patient care service experience. Previous experience in ophthalmology is preferred; experience in retina is a plus
