Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and assist with the intake process to ensure accurate and complete medical histories
- Conduct preliminary testing including visual acuity assessments, intraocular pressure measurements, and other diagnostic tests using optical equipment
- Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures by handling instruments and providing necessary support
- Maintain detailed medical records in electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Epic, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Educate patients on eye health, treatment plans, and post-procedure care to promote understanding and adherence
- Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and handling insurance or billing inquiries when needed
Requirements
- Prior experience in medical office settings or clinic environments is highly preferred
- Knowledge of ophthalmology procedures, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is a plus but on the job training is available
- Familiarity with EMR systems for documentation and record keeping
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy at all times
- Experience with optical equipment and performing vision tests like visual acuity assessments or intraocular pressure measurements is a plus but on the job training is available
- Ability to perform intake procedures efficiently while demonstrating excellent patient care skills
- Knowledge of medical coding and billing processes related to ophthalmic services is a plus
- Excellent communication skills for interacting effectively with patients of all ages
