Ophthalmic Technician

Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Ophthalmic Technician, where your expertise will directly enhance patient care and vision health. In this vital role, you will assist ophthalmologists and optometrists in delivering exceptional eye care services, ensuring smooth clinic operations, and providing compassionate support to patients throughout their visit. Duties

  • Perform patient intake procedures by collecting medical histories,, and updating medical records with precision and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures by preparing and maintaining ophthalmic instruments, ensuring aseptic technique, and managing patient comfort.
  • Conduct preliminary assessments such as measuring visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and performing slit-lamp examinations to support accurate diagnoses.
  • Manage electronic medical records (EMR) efficiently, documenting clinical notes, test results, and billing information accurately.
  • Educate patients on eye health, treatment plans, and post-procedure care while addressing questions with clarity and empathy.
  • Support front desk operations including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and handling patient intake processes with professionalism.
  • Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment by adhering to infection control protocols and ensuring all ophthalmic equipment is properly sterilized and calibrated.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of ophthalmology practices, anatomy, physiology related to eye health, and medical terminology to support accurate patient assessments.
  • Proficiency in using EMR systems such as Epic for documentation and medical coding/billing processes.
  • Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate effectively and compassionately across diverse populations including pediatrics.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security at all times.
  • Experience with optical equipment, medical records management, and clinic operations to streamline workflow.
  • Ability to perform intake procedures including vital signs measurement and initial assessments confidently.
  • Retail sales experience is a plus for assisting with eyewear selections or retail product recommendations within the clinic setting.
