Duties
- Conduct patient intake by gathering medical history, verifying insurance information, and updating medical records with accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation to assist in comprehensive eye assessments.
- Perform basic ophthalmic tests including visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurements, and slit-lamp examinations using aseptic technique to ensure safety and precision.
- Assist optometrist during examinations and procedures by preparing instruments, maintaining a sterile environment, and managing patient positioning.
- Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) like Epic or similar platforms efficiently to document clinical findings, treatment plans, and billing information accurately.
- Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, answering patient inquiries, and handling retail sales of eyewear or accessories with retail math knowledge.
- Educate patients on eye health, medication usage, and post-procedure care while maintaining excellent patient care standards throughout their visit.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical office settings with a focus on ophthalmology or optometry preferred; clinic experience is highly valued.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and ophthalmic procedures to support accurate patient assessments.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or other electronic health record platforms; experience with medical coding and billing is a plus.
- Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately across diverse populations including pediatrics.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure the confidentiality and security of patient information at all times.
- Ability to perform intake procedures, vital signs measurement, and aseptic techniques efficiently while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Basic retail sales skills combined with retail math proficiency for managing eyewear sales or accessories sales at the front desk.
