The Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe supports physicians by performing patient workups, diagnostic testing, and real-time documentation of patient encounters in the electronic medical record (EMR). This role ensures accurate clinical documentation while assisting the provider in delivering efficient, high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Workup & Clinical Duties

· Obtain and document patient history, chief complaint, medications, and allergies.

· Measure and record visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and pupil responses.

· Perform diagnostic testing including OCT, fundus photography, and visual field testing.

· Administer eye drops or medications as directed by the physician.

· Prepare patients for examination and assist the physician during procedures when needed.

· Maintain clean, stocked exam rooms and ensure equipment is functioning properly.

Scribing & Documentation

· Document patient encounters in real time during physician examinations.

· Accurately transcribe examination findings, assessments, and treatment plans into the EMR.

· Record test results and relevant clinical information as directed by the physician.

· Assist with ordering tests, prescriptions, and scheduling follow-up appointments.

· Ensure documentation supports coding and billing requirements.

Compliance & Patient Care

· Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.

· Provide excellent patient care and assist with patient flow in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Qualifications

· Prior ophthalmic technician, medical assistant, or medical scribe experience preferred.

· Knowledge of ophthalmic or medical terminology required.

· COA or COT certification is a plus but not required.

· Strong typing speed and documentation accuracy.

· Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a busy clinical environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

Experience:

  • Surgical Coordination: 1 year (Required)
  • Ophthalmology: 1 year (Preferred)
