Ophthalmic Technician/Ophthalmic Scribe

Fichte Endl & Elmer Eyecare, with locations in Amherst and Niagara Falls, NY, is currently hiring for both Ophthalmic Scribe &Ophthalmic Technician positions. Below are the detailed job descriptions and qualifications for each role:

Ophthalmic Technician (Full-Time & Part-Time)

Role Overview:
As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will be an integral part of the medical team, responsible for providing exceptional patient care and performing various pre-examination tests before the patient sees the doctor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain comprehensive patient medical histories.
  • Perform pre-testing procedures, including:
  • Intraocular pressure measurements
  • Vision assessments
  • Neutralizing glasses
  • Refractometry
  • Topography
  • Glare testing
  • Enter test data and patient history into electronic medical records (EMR)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One or more years of experience as an ophthalmic technician, optometric technician, medical scribe, or optician.
  • Graduates of medical assisting or optician programs are desirable.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with EMR systems.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to multitask in a team environment.

Ophthalmic Scribe (Full-Time & Part-Time)

Role Overview:
The Ophthalmic Scribe works alongside doctors, documenting findings in electronic medical records and assisting with various administrative tasks to ensure efficient patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately document doctors' findings in EMR systems.
  • Perform specialized medical coding and billing for exams and ophthalmic testing.
  • Type consultation letters and manage patient correspondence.
  • Escort patients to checkout or testing areas.
  • Obtain signed consent forms from patients before medical procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in the medical field with an understanding of medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in typing and computer literacy.

Hourly rate will be determined based on experience, skills, and certifications.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
