Ophthalmic Technician – Full-Time

Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Duties
- Greet patients and explain procedures to reduce anxiety and encourage cooperation.
- Spend approximately 20 minutes with each patient before the doctor’s exam to collect patient history, chief complaints, and accurately enter data into the EHR.
- Perform diagnostic testing, including:
- Zeiss Clarus retinal photography
- Pentacam corneal tomography
- Medmont Meridia corneal topography and external photography
- Eaglet Eye Surface Profiler scleral profilometry
- Zeiss Cirrus OCT imaging of the interior of the eyes
- Zeiss Humphrey visual fields analyzer for peripheral vision testing
- Input patient information and exam findings into Crystal EHR software and assist with scribing for the doctor during exams if needed.
- Measure patients’ current glasses prescriptions using automated lensometry prior to the exam.
- Instruct patients on contact lens insertion, removal, and lens care guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of test equipment and exam rooms.
Secondary Duties / Administrative Support
- Address patient questions and schedule appointments via phone, email, or text.
- Verify insurance coverage and confirm upcoming appointments.
- Prepare patient charts for future visits and complete medical records requests.
- Triage incoming calls and provide general administrative support as needed.
- Handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accurate documentation; strong typing skills required.
Experience Required
- Prior experience as an optometric or ophthalmic technician/assistant is required.
- Familiarity with Crystal PM EHR, Pentacam corneal mapping, OCT, Visual Fields testing, and contact lens application/removal is preferred. Candidates with proficiency in these areas may start at the maximum pay rate.
- Candidates familiar with some, but not all, of the above equipment will start at a lower pay rate, with opportunities for increases as proficiency grows.
- Training will be provided for diagnostic equipment or procedures that a candidate is not yet familiar with, as long as they have some foundational experience and a willingness to learn.
