Experienced, full-time Ophthalmic Scribe/Technician needed for busy, expanding, well-established and respected multi-specialty ophthalmology practice with offices in San Ramon, Brentwood, and Fremont, CA.
Candidate must be prompt, courteous, professional, adaptable, dependable, computer literate, and have excellent communication skills, both written and oral. You must be proficient in ophthalmic terminology.
The Ophthalmic Scribe (Certified or Non-Certified) assists physicians by documenting, per the physicians instructions, work in patient encounters in real-time, including medical history, exam and testing findings, and treatment plans under physician direction, to improve efficiency and accuracy in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Core Responsibilities
Real-time documentation of patient encounters, including detailed ophthalmic history, exam findings, imaging interpretation, procedures, and treatment plans under physician direction.
Maintain accurate laterality (OD/OS) and procedure documentation.
Review and prep charts in advance (OCT, fundus photography, visual field, history and treatment intervals).
Enter orders, diagnoses (ICD-10), and procedure (CPT) codes under physician direction.
Maintain clinic flow by staying aligned with physician pace and adjusting as needed.
Ensure documentation throughout the EHR supports billing, compliance, and medical necessity.
Processes prescriptions and refill requests.
Prior experience with Nextech EHR strongly preferred.
Excellent typing speed (minimum ~60+ WPM) with high accuracy.
Strong grasp of medical terminology; ophthalmic knowledge expected.
Able to keep pace with high-volume physicians and maintain accuracy during extended clinic sessions.
Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to stay focused for extended clinic sessions.
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy at all times.

Prior ophthalmic scribing experience required.
Prior experience with Nextech EHR strongly preferred.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
