About the Role:

The Optician plays a critical role in the healthcare team by assisting patients in selecting, fitting, and dispensing eyeglasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions provided by optometrists or ophthalmologists. This position ensures that patients receive eyewear that meets their vision correction needs while also providing comfort and style. The Optician is responsible for interpreting optical prescriptions, taking facial measurements, and adjusting frames to fit properly. Additionally, the role involves educating patients on proper eyewear care and maintenance to promote eye health. Ultimately, the Optician contributes to improving patients' quality of life by enhancing their vision and providing exceptional customer service in a professional healthcare environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited opticianry training program or equivalent experience.
  • Valid state licensure or certification as an Optician where applicable.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology related to eye care and vision correction.
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity and ability to handle delicate optical instruments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in opticianry or related healthcare field.
  • Experience with computerized appointment scheduling and optical dispensing software.
  • Knowledge of advanced lens technologies and coatings.
  • Strong background in biology or anatomy related to the visual system.
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare or clinical setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyeglass frames and lenses based on their prescriptions and personal preferences.
  • Interpret and verify optical prescriptions to ensure accuracy and suitability for patients' vision needs.
  • Take precise measurements of patients’ eyes and facial features to ensure proper fit and comfort of eyewear.
  • Adjust, repair, and maintain eyeglass frames to ensure optimal fit and function.
  • Manage appointment schedules efficiently to provide timely service and reduce patient wait times.
  • Provide compassionate customer service by addressing patient questions, concerns, and educating them on eyewear care.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient prescriptions, orders, and transactions in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Collaborate with optometrists and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
