Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Optician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in optometric optical and have experience in retail sales within the optical field. This position involves assisting patients with their eyewear needs, ensuring they receive the highest quality service while adhering to all relevant health regulations, including HIPAA compliance.

Duties

  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting patients in selecting eyewear that meets their needs and preferences.
  • Conduct fittings for eyeglasses and contact lenses, ensuring proper adjustments and comfort for each patient.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, including medical history and prescriptions, while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Utilize EMR systems, such as Crystal, to manage patient information efficiently.
  • Assist with laboratory tasks, including lens grinding and frame adjustments as needed.
  • Educate patients on proper eyewear care and usage, including the importance of regular eye exams.
  • Collaborate with optometrists and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends in eyewear fashion and technology to provide informed recommendations to customers.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an Optician or in a related field is a plus; optical experience is also a plus.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and vital signs is essential for effective communication with patients and healthcare providers.
  • Familiarity with retail management practices, retail math, and sales techniques to enhance customer interactions and drive sales performance.
  • Experience with medical billing and coding is a plus, as well as knowledge of aseptic techniques for maintaining a clean working environment.
  • Background in pediatrics or senior care can be beneficial when working with diverse patient populations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are crucial for maintaining accurate medical records and managing patient appointments effectively.
