Optician Technician

In this energetic position, you will assist with patient examinations, prepare eyewear, and ensure seamless operations within our ophthalmology or optometry clinics. Duties

  • Assist optometrists during eye examinations by preparing necessary equipment and ensuring patient comfort
  • Take and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels to support diagnosis and treatment plans
  • Measure and record patients’ prescriptions accurately using specialized optical equipment
  • Prepare and dispense eyewear, including fitting glasses, adjusting frames, and explaining lens options to patients
  • Maintain detailed medical records in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems such as Epic, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Support laboratory processes by performing basic optical fabrication tasks, including lens edging and mounting
  • Manage retail sales of eyewear products, utilizing retail math skills to ensure proper inventory levels and pricing strategies
  • Uphold aseptic techniques during procedures to maintain a sterile environment and prevent infections
  • Assist in medical billing and coding processes related to vision care services for accurate reimbursement

Experience

  • Prior experience working in optometry clinics is highly preferred, with familiarity using EMR systems or similar platforms
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology related to the eye, and medical coding practices for billing purposes
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with optical equipment such as lensometers or phoropters is advantageous
  • Experience working with pediatric patients or senior care populations is a plus, demonstrating adaptability across diverse age groups
  • Retail sales experience combined with retail management skills can enhance your ability to engage patients effectively and manage inventory efficiently
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations ensures confidentiality and proper handling of medical records and patient information
  • Ability to communicate clearly about medical procedures, eyewear options, and insurance processes to foster positive patient interactions
