Opto-Mechanical Assembly Technician (Full Time) onsite in Boulder, Colorado

Imatest LLC is a small, well-established and growing software company based in Boulder, Colorado, that focuses on measuring the quality of digital camera systems.

Our software, test charts and equipment are used for product development in a wide variety of camera applications, including smartphones, tablets, consumer cameras, medical imaging, automotive imaging, machine vision and space exploration. We are increasingly involved in manufacturing and quality control testing. Our customers include most of the world’s major imaging companies.

We are looking for a detail-oriented Opto-Mechanical Assembly Technician to join our team working on-site in our office in Boulder, CO. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for building, testing and packaging Imatest’s high-precision hardware products. You will be a critical part of our manufacturing process, working closely with engineers to ensure every product that leaves our facility meets rigorous quality standards. Job Location: Boulder, CO

Responsibilities:

• Manufacture, build and assemble hardware products including: extruded aluminum frames, breadboards and complex optical assemblies.
• Read, interpret and follow detailed assembly instructions and engineering drawings
• Operate essential shop tools and equipment, including hand drills, drill press, tapping machine, pallet jack, laser cutter and 3D printer
• Carefully package and crate finished products for safe shipment
• Perform in-process quality checks to ensure all products meet our high standards and specifications
• Take ownership of the manufacturing space: organize inventory, manage tools and maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment
• Identify and suggest improvements to assembly processes and documentation
• Collaborate with engineers and team members to resolve assembly challenges and ensure projects are completed on schedule
• Assist the support team by providing technical insights and troubleshooting assistance for customer hardware issues
• Assist with other manufacturing and operational responsibilities as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1-2 years of experience in a hands-on mechanical or technical assembly role
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical problems
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Ability to read and understand technical assembly instructions
• Experience using hand tools, power tools and measuring instruments safely and effectively.
• Basic computer skills and experience with Google Drive (Docs, Sheets)
• Strong organization, prioritization and time-management skills
• A strong commitment to following safety standards and maintaining a clean workspace

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
• Ability to lift and move heavy loads (up to 50 lbs)
• Ability to safely operate a pallet jack

Desired Experience:

• Prior experience with inventory management (Odoo)
• Prior experience in a technical support or customer-facing role
• Experience with precision measurement tools like calipers and torque wrenches
• Experience with rapid prototyping (laser cutting, 3D printing)
• Experience with CAD (Solidworks) and engineering drawings
• Basic electronics manufacturing skills (soldering, reading electrical schematics)

Salary Range: $50,000-$60,000commensurate with experience
