Optometric Assistant

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for patient care, with a comprehensive understanding of ophthalmic procedures, medical office operations, and optical services. As an integral part of our clinic, the Optometric Assistant will support an optometrist in providing exceptional eye care, managing patient interactions, and ensuring smooth clinic workflows. This is a small non corporate setting focused on community service.

Duties

  • Greet patients warmly and efficiently manage patient intake processes, including collecting medical histories and verifying insurance information.
  • Assist in measuring vital signs such as blood pressure.
  • Prepare patients for examinations by performing preliminary testing
  • Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures to ensure patient safety and compliance with health regulations.
  • Support optometrist with clinical tasks such as dilation administration, refraction testing, and recording medical records accurately within Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Assist with frame selection, and support retail sales to enhance patient satisfaction and clinic revenue.
  • Handle administrative duties at the front desk, including scheduling appointments, processing payments, and maintaining organized medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by supporting clinic operations, promoting excellent patient care, and adhering to all safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in optometry clinics is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology related to eye health, and ophthalmic procedures.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms used for documentation and record management.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality and data security.
  • Experience with intake procedures, vital signs measurement, aseptic techniques, and clinical support tasks.
  • Background in retail sales or customer service is advantageous for supporting optical product sales.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic knowledge of medical coding and billing processes related to ophthalmology services is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations including pediatrics and those requiring specialized care.
