Optometric Technician

Duties

  • Greet patients warmly and efficiently manage patient intake processes, including collecting medical histories and verifying insurance information
  • Assist with optometric testing procedures, including retinal imaging, refraction, and visual field testing using specialized equipment
  • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with privacy standards
  • Prepare and sterilize optometric instruments using aseptic techniques to uphold safety and infection control protocols
  • Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Epic or EMR platforms by documenting patient information accurately and efficiently
  • Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, answering patient inquiries, and handling retail sales of eyewear products as needed with retail math proficiency

Skills

  • Strong patient care skills with a focus on compassion, communication, and professionalism
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and optometry fundamentals to assist in clinical tasks effectively
  • Experience with optical equipment and understanding of eye health diagnostics is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations, medical coding, billing procedures, and medical records management
  • Ability to operate EMR systems like Epic or other electronic health record platforms confidently
  • Excellent organizational skills for managing multiple tasks in a busy clinic environment
  • Retail sales experience combined with retail math skills to support eyewear sales and inventory management
  • Clinic experience or background in pediatrics is a plus for working with diverse patient groups
