Optometric Technician / Receptionist/Front Desk

Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Optometric Technician / Receptionist / Front Desk professional to join our vibrant eye care team! This multifaceted role combines patient care, administrative excellence, and optical expertise to ensure our patients receive top-tier service from the moment they walk through our doors. As a vital member of our clinic, you will facilitate smooth patient flow, assist with eye examinations, and manage front desk operations—all while creating a welcoming and professional environment. Responsibilities

  • Greet patients warmly upon arrival, verify insurance information, and perform patient intake procedures efficiently.
  • Collect and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and visual acuity measurements to assist in comprehensive eye assessments.
  • Prepare examination rooms using aseptic techniques to maintain a clean, safe environment for both patients and staff.
  • Assist optometrists during eye exams by conducting preliminary tests and gathering relevant medical history.
  • Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems like Epic or other EMR platforms accurately, ensuring all medical records are up-to-date and compliant with HIPAA regulations.
  • Educate patients on optical products, lens options, and retail sales opportunities while applying retail math skills to recommend suitable eyewear solutions.
  • Handle front desk duties including scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, managing medical billing and coding processes, and maintaining organized medical records.
  • Support clinic operations by ensuring smooth patient flow, managing appointment confirmations, and coordinating follow-up care as needed.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA standards and clinic policies.

Experience

  • Prior experience working in an ophthalmology or optometry setting is highly preferred; familiarity with optical procedures is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy related to the eye, and medical terminology necessary for accurate patient assessment.
  • Experience with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms; proficiency in medical billing and coding is advantageous.
  • Background in medical office administration including front desk responsibilities, appointment scheduling, and insurance processing.
  • Knowledge of pediatric eye care (pediatrics) is desirable for serving diverse patient populations effectively.
  • Retail sales experience combined with retail math skills will help in recommending eyewear products confidently while achieving sales goals.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent patient care skills with compassion, professionalism, and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
