Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and efficiently manage appointment scheduling at the front desk using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic or similar platforms.
- Conduct patient intake by collecting comprehensive medical histories, verifying insurance information, and updating medical records while maintaining HIPAA compliance to protect patient privacy.
- Measure vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Assist with clinical procedures such as dilating pupils, performing basic vision tests, and applying aseptic techniques during examinations to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Support the ophthalmology team by preparing exam rooms, sterilizing equipment, and managing medical supplies with attention to aseptic technique standards.
- Handle billing and coding processes accurately for insurance claims related to ophthalmic services, ensuring compliance with medical billing regulations.
- Maintain detailed medical records, document patient interactions thoroughly, and ensure all documentation aligns with HIPAA guidelines.
- Engage in retail sales of eyewear products by providing knowledgeable recommendations based on patient needs and preferences while managing retail math to optimize sales opportunities.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to eye health to effectively communicate with patients and team members.
- Support clinic operations by managing front desk duties such as answering phones, scheduling follow-up appointments, and coordinating referrals or specialist visits as needed.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a medical office environment or ophthalmology/optometry clinic is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR systems like Epic or other electronic health record platforms is essential for efficient documentation and scheduling.
- Knowledge of medical coding and billing procedures related to ophthalmic services enhances accuracy in insurance processing.
- Experience in patient care roles involving vital signs measurement, intake procedures, or pediatrics is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy related to the eye, and physiology supports effective communication within the clinical team.
- Retail sales experience combined with an understanding of retail math helps in promoting eyewear products confidently while achieving sales goals.
