Optometric Vision Therapist (Training Provided)

The Center for Vision Development is looking for passionate full-time vision therapists to join our Austin team. The ideal candidate has experience working with children and is interested and willing to become knowledgeable about our specialized area of practice. We are looking for someone with initiative who learns quickly and can take ownership of the role and training. Our vision therapists are fully trained in-house and will work closely with the optometrists and vision therapists. Our team is a small, close-knit group that works well together and is invested in the growth and sustainability of our practice.

About Us

We are the longest-established vision therapy practice in Austin founded in 2004 and we opened our Waco practice in 2018. Our team is led by developmental optometrists who specialize in vision therapy. Our patients are all shapes, sizes, ages and abilities. Our team of vision therapists have various backgrounds including nursing, nutrition, caregiving, medical billing, and exercise science. We appreciate various backgrounds and experiences. We all have one thing in common—we love working with people!

We are a strong team and work well together. We are very proud of our service to our patients and our level of professionalism, including our long-term relationships with our patients and their families.

We are organized and efficient while still maintaining a personal touch. Our minimum standard is considered above and beyond by most. A standard of excellence is what we strive for every day. We are open 5 days a week, Monday - Friday.

Position Details and Benefits

  • This is a full-time position.
  • Working Schedule: Monday-Thursday: 10am – 7pm*, Friday: 9am – 6pm. We take a 1-hour lunch break from 1-2pm.

*Monday-Thursday schedule might vary where 1-2 days could be 11am – 7pm.

  • Starting salary is $18-25 per hour based on experience. Once training is successfully completed, compensation will be reviewed and modified based on performance. Employees may also qualify for production-based bonuses and periodic salary increases based on performance. Experience in related fields such as teaching, ABA therapy, occupational therapy, and healthcare is taken into salary considerations.

Main Duties

  • Complete the training process. Our training is completed in-house. It involves hands-on observations, independent study and reading, and written and oral reviews to ensure knowledge of material. We are here to support you through training!
  • Provide vision therapy services to patients in professional and friendly manner.
  • Work one-on-one with patients of all ages (majority are school-aged children).
  • Complete session record notes for each patient.
  • Work closely with the optometrists and other vision therapists to maintain high level of patient care.
  • Administer, grade and input scores from visual processing evaluations.
  • Communicate home activities changes and plans with patients and parents.
  • Maintain clean and professional vision therapy room and clinic.
  • Help patients reach their goals and their maximum potential!

Necessary Qualities

  • Mature, calm, organized
  • Must enjoy working with patients of all shapes and sizes: children, adults, special population patients including autism and brain injury
  • Quick learner, must be able to learn vision therapy techniques and procedures
  • Great at time management and completing tasks on-time
  • Reliable and independent
  • Strong communication skills
  • Able to work well with the doctor and vision therapist team in collaborative environment
  • Able to think analytically
  • Detail oriented
