Optometry Office Manager & Lead Optician - Private Practice

Location: Plaza Midwood/Noda Employment Type: Full-Time: 36 hours (8:00am to 6:00pm) Experience Required: Minimum 5 years in the Optometry Industry

We are a high-quality, small private optometry practice seeking an experienced, dynamic, and detail-oriented professional to serve as our Office Manager and Lead Optician. This pivotal role requires someone who can seamlessly lead our team while maintaining an active presence in the optical department and ensuring flawless administrative operations.

Primary Focus & Optical Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be the primary sales and optical expert. This requires:

  • Expert Optical Sales & Styling: Comfortable and proficient in providing 1:1 frame styling, educating patients on lens technology, and ensuring accurate lens ordering based on doctor prescriptions.
  • Benefits Counseling: Expert ability to clearly and confidently explain complex vision and medical insurance benefits to patients, maximizing their purchasing power and ensuring claim accuracy.
  • High-Value Sales: A strong track record in converting exams to high-quality eyewear sales.

Management & Personnel Focus:

This position requires proven leadership skills, with primary administrative duties centered on team performance:

  • Personnel Management: Direct responsibility for all staff functions, including hiring, training, onboarding, scheduling, performance reviews, and necessary disciplinary action (firing).
  • Team Leadership: Cultivating a positive, patient-focused, and high-performing office culture.
  • Process Improvement: Implementing and optimizing operational workflows for efficiency.

Comprehensive Operational Duties:

The Manager must be adept at stepping into any role, including:

  • Administrative & Financial: Handling daily cash management, preparing invoices, managing accounts receivable, and overseeing billing cycles.
  • Insurance Expertise: Deep working knowledge of vision and medical insurance verification and billing procedures (e.g., VSP, Eyemed, Medicare, private medical carriers).
  • Front Desk: Covering check-in/check-out, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow.
  • Office Maintenance: Troubleshooting minor office equipment issues (e.g., electronic health record system, printers, basic diagnostic equipment).

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of continuous experience working within an Optometry or Ophthalmology practice.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory or management role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in optical sales and ABO certification is a strong plus.
