Oral Surgeon — Part-Time

Job summary
Provide high-quality oral and maxillofacial surgery services on a part-time basis at KFD. The practice provides supplies and a dedicated dental assistant; compensation is a competitive percentage of your production.

Core clinical duties

  • Patient evaluation & consultations — review history, perform oral exam, interpret radiographs/CBCT, discuss treatment options and risks.
  • Treatment planning — create comprehensive surgical plans and coordinate with referring general dentists/orthodontists/prosthodontists.
  • Exodontia — simple and complex extractions, management of retained roots and surgical removal of impacted teeth (including third molars).
  • Implant surgery — placement of endosseous implants, immediate implants, exposure for implants, and coordination for prosthetic phase.
  • Hard- and soft-tissue surgery — bone grafting, ridge augmentation, sinus lifts, frenectomies, biopsies, and soft-tissue management.
  • Sedation & anesthesia — administer and monitor local anesthesia and moderate sedation (nitrous/IV if permitted by licensure), ensure appropriate monitoring and recovery.
  • Emergency care & complication management — manage postoperative bleeding, infections, nerve/soft-tissue injuries, and other surgical complications; arrange referrals/hospital transfer when required.
  • Pre- and post-operative care — pre-op clearance, informed consent, postoperative instructions, pain/control prescriptions, suture removal, follow-up visits.
  • Diagnostic & minor office procedures — oral pathology sampling, biopsies, minor corrective procedures.

Administrative & practice responsibilities

  • Accurate charting & documentation — maintain timely, thorough surgical notes, include imaging IDs, implant/fixture details, and postoperative instructions (important because compensation is production-based).
  • Coordination with team — work directly with KFD dental assistant, front desk/scheduling, and administrative staff to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Quality & compliance — follow OSHA, infection control, HIPAA, and state dental board regulations; keep equipment and sterilization workflows current.
  • Equipment & supplies oversight — while supplies are provided by KFD, surgeon should confirm availability of specific instruments/implants and communicate special needs in advance.
  • Billing & coding collaboration — supply required procedure details and assist office staff with accurate coding/documentation needed for production accounting.
  • Continuing education & credentialing — maintain licensure, hospital privileges (if needed), DEA registration, and certifications required for sedation and emergency care.

Typical hours & on-site setup

  • Part-time schedule — Exact schedule to be agreed.
  • Clinic support — KFD provides a trained dental assistant and clinical supplies. Minor administrative/clinical support provided by staff.

Compensation & benefits

  • Pay — competitive, based on a percentage of your production (exact % to be negotiated). Example ranges commonly seen for similar arrangements: 40–50% of production, depending on scope and responsibilities.

Required qualifications

  • DDS or DMD with completion of an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency (or equivalent).
  • Active Washington state dental license (or applicable state licensure), DEA registration if prescribing controlled substances.
  • BLS/ACLS (and sedation/monitoring certifications if administering IV/GA).
  • Current malpractice insurance (practice may offer options/requirements to discuss).
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with a small team, and commitment to patient-centered care.

Nice-to-have / preferred

  • Prior outpatient clinic experience with implants, bone grafting, and sedation cases.
  • Experience working in a multi-doctor general practice setting and good rapport with general dentists.
