Oral Surgery Assistant

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Oral Surgery Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. Responsibilities

  • Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies, ensuring all equipment is sterilized and ready for use.
  • Assist the oral surgeon during procedures by handing instruments, managing suction, and maintaining a clear operative field.
  • Take and develop dental X-rays using advanced medical imaging technology such as 3D scanners and intraoral cameras.
  • Monitor vital signs and patient comfort levels throughout procedures, adhering to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation, including medical records, dental terminology, and procedural notes in EMR systems like Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic.
  • Educate patients on post-operative care instructions, medication usage, and follow-up appointments to ensure optimal recovery.
  • Manage administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist and updating medical coding for billing purposes.

Skills

  • Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, four-handed dentistry, and infection control practices.
  • Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to oral surgery procedures.
  • Experience working with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic to document patient information accurately.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality and data security.
  • Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners effectively.
  • Knowledge of pediatric dentistry principles when assisting with pediatric patients requiring oral surgery interventions.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with the dental team and provide clear instructions to patients.
