Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Oral Surgery Assistant to join our well established team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dental assisting, ideally with specialized experience in oral surgery and anesthesia procedures. This role requires excellent technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care. As an Oral Surgery Assistant, you will support oral surgeons during complex procedures, ensure the highest standards of infection control, and assist with patient education and documentation to promote optimal oral health outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms with appropriate instruments, supplies, and sterilization techniques in accordance with aseptic protocols.
- Assist oral surgeons during surgical procedures, including extractions, biopsies, and implant placements, utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray) and operate medical imaging equipment such as 3D scanners to facilitate accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Manage patient records using EMR systems while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for medical documentation and confidentiality.
- Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort before, during, and after procedures to ensure safety and well-being.
- Educate patients on post-operative care instructions and maintain clear communication regarding treatment plans.
- Maintain infection control standards through proper sterilization of instruments and adherence to OSHA guidelines.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments as a dental receptionist when needed, ensuring smooth clinic operations.
- Demonstrate proficiency in dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding to accurately document procedures and diagnoses across medical records.
- Candidate must be committed to full time position and available Monday-Friday 7am-5pm with occasional after hours call responsibilities.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment with a focus on oral surgery or general dentistry is essential.
- Knowledge of infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, and anatomy relevant to oral surgery is critical for success in this role.
- Experience with medical imaging technology such as 3D scanners or cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) enhances your candidacy.
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures accurately while maintaining patient safety standards is necessary.
- Strong understanding of dental assisting practices combined with excellent communication skills will enable effective collaboration within the team. Work Location: In person
