Job Description: Oral Surgery Assistant

Reports To: Oral Surgeon/Lead Oral Surgery Assistant

Job Summary:

The Oral Surgery Assistant plays a critical role in providing support to oral surgeons and

ensuring the smooth flow of oral surgery procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong

understanding of oral surgery practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to

maintain a calm and professional demeanor in high-pressure situations. This position require

travelling to multiple offices, the candidate will be compensate for mileage driven.

Responsibilities:

1. Prepare Treatment Rooms: Set up and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and

treatment rooms before procedures.

2. Patient Care: Greet and prepare patients for oral surgery, explaining procedures,

answering questions, and providing reassurance.

3. Assisting Surgeons: Provide chairside assistance to oral surgeons during procedures,

passing instruments, and anticipating their needs.

4. Infection Control: Maintain a sterile environment by following proper infection control

protocols and disposing of hazardous materials appropriately.

5. Record Keeping: Accurately record patient information, treatment plans, and procedures

in patient records and digital systems.

6. Radiography: Take and process X-rays as directed by oral surgeons, ensuring high-

quality images and patient safety.

7. Post-Op Care: Provide post-operative instructions to patients, answer questions, and

ensure they are comfortable before leaving the facility.

8. Equipment Maintenance: Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and

equipment to ensure proper functionality.

9. Administrative Tasks: Assist with scheduling appointments, managing patient records,

and handling billing and insurance claims.

10. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other dental and medical professionals to ensure

seamless patient care and effective communication.

Qualifications:

● High school diploma or equivalent; certification as a Dental Assistant is preferred.

● Previous experience in oral surgery or a dental setting is highly advantageous.

● Knowledge of dental terminology, surgical procedures, and infection control practices.

● Proficiency in using dental software and digital imaging systems.

● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients and the

surgical team.

● Strong organizational abilities to manage patient records, appointments, and equipment.

● Ability to stay composed under pressure and adapt to changing situations in a fast-

paced environment.

● Attention to detail, with a commitment to maintaining a sterile and safe surgical

environment.
