Duties
- Provide comprehensive chairside assistance during orthodontic procedures, including bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance management.
- Support dental teams with four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient comfort.
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including intraoral and panoramic images, ensuring proper technique and safety protocols.
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix, OPEN DENTAL or Eaglesoft, maintaining accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with infection control procedures, sterilization of instruments, and aseptic techniques to uphold clinic safety standards.
- Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices tailored to pediatric dentistry needs.
- Document medical and dental histories accurately, including vital signs and medical documentation relevant to each patient’s treatment plan.
- Utilize 3D scanners and other advanced medical imaging tools for precise diagnosis and treatment planning in orthodontics.
- Maintain a welcoming environment by handling administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments as a dental receptionist when required.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in dental assisting within a clinical setting, preferably with pediatric dentistry or orthodontics.
- Proficiency in EMR systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft; familiarity with open dental plus.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques.
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures accurately while adhering to safety standards for both patients and staff.
- Excellent understanding of HIPAA regulations related to medical records and medical coding practices.
- Skilled in chairside assisting with a focus on four-handed dentistry for efficiency and patient comfort.
- Experience working with 3D scanners or advanced imaging equipment is advantageous.
