Orthodontic Dental Assistant

Responsibilities

  • Assist orthodontists during various procedures, including bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance fittings, utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency and patient comfort
  • Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary equipment such as 3D scanners and medical imaging devices, and ensuring all tools are ready for use
  • Take and develop dental X-rays while adhering to infection control protocols and maintaining proper aseptic techniques
  • Manage patient records using Ortho2 Viewpoint, ensuring accurate documentation of treatment plans, medical history, vital signs, and progress notes in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices tailored for pediatric dentistry and general dentistry needs
  • Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and assisting the dental receptionist with patient check-in/out processes
  • Maintain a clean and organized clinic environment while following strict infection control standards to ensure safety for patients and staff

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a dental assistant in orthodontics or general dentistry; familiarity with dental assisting procedures is essential
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control practices
  • Proficiency with dental software managing medical records and documentation
  • Ability to operate X-ray machines and utilize 3D scanners or other medical imaging tools effectively
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and data security
  • Excellent communication skills to interact confidently with pediatric patients and their families
  • Certification in dental assisting is preferred; additional training in orthodontics is a plus
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and professionalism

Pay: $26.00 - $33.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32.0 – 40.0 per week

Experience:

  • Orthodontics: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • CDA/RDA and X-Ray license (Preferred)
