The Orthopaedic Phone Nurse supports providers in delivering high‑quality patient care within a busy orthopaedic practice. This role utilizes strong critical‑thinking skills and clinical judgment to assess patient needs, provide guidance, and coordinate care through effective phone‑based communication. Responsibilities include thorough documentation in the EMR, assisting patients and providers with timely and accurate information, and ensuring all communication is conducted professionally and respectfully.

The Orthopaedic Phone Nurse will cross‑train in Orthopaedic Office/Clinic Nurse duties and maintain familiarity with physician workflow, hospital resources, and community support options to best meet the needs of patients. This position also manages paperwork such as FMLA, Short‑Term Disability, and Workers’ Compensation forms, and follows all Wabash General Hospital policies related to patient care, safety, and confidentiality.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Illinois licensure and registration as a professional nurse
  • Current CPR certification (or must obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • One year of clinical experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Strong working knowledge of the nursing process, including physical assessment skills and critical thinking
  • Regular travel to satellite clinic locations
