Job Summary:

An ortho technician is a healthcare professional who assists orthopaedic doctors and surgeons in patient care, primarily by applying and removing casts, splints, and braces. They also prepare operating rooms, assist in surgery, and manage equipment. Some specialized technicians also manufacture, repair, and maintain medical aids like prostheses and orthoses.

Key Responsibilities:

• Patient care: Applying, adjusting, and removing casts, splints, and braces to immobilize limbs and other body parts.
• Surgical assistance: Working in an operating room, assisting surgical and anesthetic teams, preparing the surgical site, and sometimes acting as the first assistant.
• Equipment management: Preparing and maintaining orthopedic equipment, including instruments, and ensuring the operating room is clean and disinfected.
• Medical aid support: Manufacturing, repairing, and adjusting medical aids such as splints, braces, prostheses, corsets, and wheelchairs, and instructing patients on their use.

Key Skills :

• Proficient in casting, splinting, and bracing techniques
• Excellent patient care and communication skills
• Strong organizational and inventory management abilities
• Familiar with medical office procedures and equipment

Qualifications:

• Certified Orthopedic Technician (COT)
• Any Degree in Orthopedic Technologya
