Roles & Responsibilities of OT Staff Nurse

• Pre-Operative Care
• Prepare OT with sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies.
• Verify patient identity, consent, investigations, and surgical site.
• Assist anesthetist in pre-operative preparations.
• Intra-Operative Care
• Function as Scrub Nurse (maintain sterility, hand over instruments, count sponges/needles) or Circulating Nurse (assist with positioning, supply materials, maintain records).
• Monitor patient condition and support anesthetist/surgeon.
• Post-Operative Care
• Safely shift patient to recovery/ICU and hand over details.
• Dispose biomedical waste as per protocol.
• Send specimens with proper labeling and documentation.
• Infection Control & Safety
• Follow strict aseptic techniques and PPE use.
• Ensure sterilization and biomedical waste segregation.
• Equipment & Stock
• Check OT equipment daily and report malfunctions.
• Maintain inventory of instruments, sutures, and drugs.
• Documentation & Communication
• Record OT notes, surgical counts, and medicines used.
