Roles & Responsibilities of OT Staff Nurse
- Pre-Operative Care
- Prepare OT with sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Verify patient identity, consent, investigations, and surgical site.
- Assist anesthetist in pre-operative preparations.
- Intra-Operative Care
- Function as Scrub Nurse (maintain sterility, hand over instruments, count sponges/needles) or Circulating Nurse (assist with positioning, supply materials, maintain records).
- Monitor patient condition and support anesthetist/surgeon.
- Post-Operative Care
- Safely shift patient to recovery/ICU and hand over details.
- Dispose biomedical waste as per protocol.
- Send specimens with proper labeling and documentation.
- Infection Control & Safety
- Follow strict aseptic techniques and PPE use.
- Ensure sterilization and biomedical waste segregation.
- Equipment & Stock
- Check OT equipment daily and report malfunctions.
- Maintain inventory of instruments, sutures, and drugs.
