Position : Scrub Nurse (OT)

Role Description

Pre-Operative Duties:

• Prepare the operation theatre and ensure availability of sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Perform surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving as per protocol.
• Check sterility indicators and expiry dates of surgical items.
• Assist in patient positioning and surgical site preparation.

Intra-Operative Duties:

• Maintain strict aseptic technique throughout the procedure.
• Anticipate surgeon’s needs and pass instruments accurately and promptly.
• Count sponges, needles, and instruments before, during, and after surgery.
• Handle specimens correctly and pass them to circulating nurse with proper labeling.

Post-Operative Duties:

• Assist in wound dressing and application of bandages.
• Ensure final surgical counts are correct and documented.
• Participate in cleaning, sterilization, and preparation of instruments for next case.
• Handover patient details to recovery room staff.

Patient Safety & Infection Control:

• Follow infection control and OT protocols strictly.
• Ensure proper biomedical waste segregation.
• Report any break in sterile technique immediately.

Documentation & Coordination:

• Maintain accurate OT records and surgical count documentation.
• Coordinate with surgeons, anesthetists, and OT staff for smooth workflow.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Diploma / B.Sc Nursing with valid Nursing Council Registration.
• OT experience preferred.
• Knowledge of surgical instruments and aseptic techniques.
• Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
