Summary/Objective

Drives outreach vehicle to specific locations on a predetermined schedule to provide library services to patrons. Arranges services for homebound and nursing home patrons as needed. Drives outreach vehicle to special events to promote the library.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Checks materials in and out, enters patron registrations; assists patrons in locating materials and information for outreach.
  • Shelves materials, stocks outreach vehicles with books and supplies.
  • Drives to and from outreach stops, including delivery to nursing homes and homebound patrons.
  • May deliver library materials to our remote lockers for patrons to pick up.
  • May assists with emptying book drops throughout Cole and Osage counties.
  • Drives outreach vehicle to special events to promote the library.
  • Works scheduled shifts at public desks and assists patrons and staff as needed.
  • May assist with opening and closing the library on a set schedule.
  • May serve on library committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Utilize good organization and customer service skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Work cooperatively with public and library staff.
  • Ability to develop and implement new adult programs, with good presentation skills.
  • Work independently and be self-directed.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and the Internet.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. Will drive the outreach vehicle under varying weather conditions. Will work behind a public service desk. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, phones, cash register, photocopiers, etc.

  • Frequent bending, lifting, reaching and stooping to select and shelve library materials.
  • Sitting, standing and walking.
  • Lifting and carrying, 25 pounds or less.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position. Hours of work are Thursday 8am-5pm and Friday 3-6pm; every other weekend Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.


Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Exceptional verbal and written skills.
  • Experience working with the public.
  • Experience working in a library is desirable.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must have a valid Missouri driver’s license.
  • High degree of customer service skills to work with patrons of all ages, including special needs patrons, and library staff.
