Job Title: Outreach Specialist – Substance Use Disorder (SUD)
Department: Behavioral Health / Community Outreach
Reports To: Program Manager or Clinical Supervisor
Position Summary
The Outreach Specialist for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) programs engages individuals and communities affected by substance use disorders to increase awareness, access to treatment, recovery support, and community resources. This role builds relationships with community partners, conducts outreach activities, provides education, and helps connect clients to appropriate services.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct community outreach to identify and engage individuals in need of SUD services.
- Educate clients, families, and community organizations about substance use disorders, treatment options, harm reduction, and recovery resources.
- Build partnerships with hospitals, shelters, treatment centers, schools, justice agencies, and community organizations.
- Assist clients with referrals, intake processes, appointment scheduling, and access to community resources.
- Maintain accurate documentation of outreach activities, client interactions, and referrals.
- Participate in outreach events, health fairs, recovery events, and community meetings.
- Provide crisis intervention support and de-escalation when appropriate.
- Support clients in overcoming barriers to treatment such as transportation, insurance, housing, or stigma.
- Collaborate with case managers, counselors, peer recovery specialists, and healthcare providers.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality standards, and agency policies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, public health, counseling, or related field preferred.
- Experience working with individuals affected by substance use disorders, mental health, homelessness, or underserved populations preferred.
- Knowledge of SUD treatment, recovery principles, harm reduction, and community resources.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and in community-based settings.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required.
- CPR/First Aid or peer recovery certification preferred.

Work Environment

Schedule: Monday–Friday, occasional evenings/weekends as needed
