Outreach Technician

The Bethlehem Area Public Library has an opening for a part-time Outreach Technician. The position is 15 hours per week and pay is $20 per hour. PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal, and FBI Fingerprint clearances are required. Working occasional nights and Saturdays is required. Full job description is below.

I. POSITION

A. Title: Outreach Technician

II. QUALIFICATIONS

A. A bachelor’s degree in an applicable subject area is preferred, or an associate’s degree

plus one year of library experience

B. Ability to work well both independently and cooperatively with staff and patrons; must

possess excellent customer service skills

C. Reference and technology skills, with proficiency in internet and online database

searching

D. Must be flexible with schedule and work location, willing to cover coworker vacations

and outreach events as needed, especially in the evenings and on weekends

E. Must take initiative, use time efficiently, pay attention to detail, troubleshoot and resolve

problems

F. Ability to meet physical and environmental demands of the position – sitting for long

periods of time; lifting and moving boxes of books and materials weighing up to 40

pounds; physical mobility to reach all shelving

G. Must maintain a professional appearance on the job

III. JOB SUMMARY

The Outreach Technician is responsible for providing assistance with circulation,

information, outreach, and programming. The ideal candidate will serve as an exemplary

representative of the library to creatively and effectively promote the library’s mission and

services.

IV. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Accurately shelves library materials; create engaging displays

B. Performs circulation duties (check-out / check-in of materials, register patrons for library

cards, resolve patron issues)

C. Provides reference and reader’s advisory assistance to patrons

D. Stays informed of and promotes library services and programs

E. Assists with outreach and /or creates outreach programming as needed

F. Reads and reviews new materials

G. Keeps current with library trends in outreach and programming

H. Participates in the overall neatness of the library by performing light tidying tasks

I. Other duties as assigned by supervisor
